We continue our preaching series, to guide us through this little season of renewal, in preparation for our Fall Kick-Off. As we continue to reflect upon the ‘structure of the house,’ we prepare to reflect upon the ‘pillar’ of HUMILITY. Below you, can see a handy little chart designed to help you sort out the structure of the house (the foundation, as well as the five pillars).
It is a nice little twist of providence to be preparing to reflect further upon Humility during the week of our parish feast day. Saint Louis, who is represented in the crest (front cover) in the window by the stairs up to the choir loft, in the vestibule of the church, is a great model of humility. Prominent in the crest, you can see images of Our Lord’s Passion and Death upon the cross: the cross, the nails, and the crown of thorns. King Louis IX was a man of great faith, who sought to point to Christ the King, both in his role as King of France (notice the crown atop the crest),
and in his more important role as a father. Deeply devoted to the relics of Our Lord’s Passion, he came to be gifted with the relic of the Crown of Thorns. This crown endures as a profound symbol of the humility of Christ, the King, upon which I will elaborate in the homily for his feast day (see below).
FEAST OF SAINT LOUIS: This coming Saturday (August 25th) is our parish feast day! In honor of our patron, you all are invited to a special 9 AM Mass for the Feast of Saint Louis, followed by Breakfast in the hall. I hope you can join us!
